Texas Tech comes strong with defense, tops Louisiana in WNIT finale

LAFAYETTE, La. — Texas Tech closed the 2022 Preseason WNIT with a dominant defensive effort, holding Louisiana to 11 points in the first half, and freshman Bailey Maupin scored 13 points as the Lady Raiders rolled to victory.

The Lady Raiders (3-1) shot 62 percent from the field and were 6-for-11 from 3-point range, enough to help overcome 23 turnovers. Jazmaine Lewis scored 12 points, and Rhyle McKinney chipped in with 10 points. 

Both offenses needed time to get started, with the game still scoreless four minutes into the first quarter.

The Ragin' Cajuns (1-4) were led by Nubia Benedith’s 14 points, while Lanay Wheaton added 11 points and seven rebounds. Louisiana shot 25 percent from the field.

The all-tournament team featured the following players:
